Textiles minister Smriti Zubin Irani on Friday said that one,590 items throughout more than 180 product or service groups have been registered less than the India Handloom Model which was launched in 2015 to present assurance to the consumers about authenticity of handloom items. At the Countrywide Handloom Day virtual occasion, she also said that 9 of the 28 weavers’ service centres have been upgraded with regard to analysis and marketing with the help of Countrywide Institute of Vogue Technological innovation (NIFT).

“There are 28 Weaver Service Centres in India. We experienced asked pupils of NIFT to improve them with regard to marketing and analysis,” Irani said.

Of these, 9 centres in Delhi, Jaipur, Srinagar and Banaras, have by now been upgraded.

Irani said the approach is to improve all the centres with NIFT’s help.
