New Book shows elderly Chinatown style stars across the country

Chinatown is regarded for its food items, its procuring and its history. But two friends want it to be celebrated for a little something else — its completely distinctive avenue fashion.

San Francisco-based mostly photographer Andria Lo and writer and caterer Valerie Luu fulfilled via the food items scene more than six years back, and beloved having jointly in the Bay Area’s Chinatown. And the more time they used there, Lo claimed, “we discovered this genuinely specific fashion amongst the senior citizens.”

What began as a pet project — snapping photos and interviewing snazzy seniors — became a enthusiasm, as the pair traveled the region to visit bustling Chinatowns in Oakland, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Chicago and New York. Now, their photographs and interviews are compiled into a reserve, “Chinatown Pretty” (Chronicle Publications), out Sept. 22.

“We have pics and scenes from all of the Chinatowns we frequented,” Lo claimed.
